Reason I became an advanced diver:
This is the Coast Guard Cutter Duane, which is now sank off
the shores of the J.Pennekamp Park in South FL (Key Biscayne,
I believe.) It is a difficult wreck dive in its often
indecisive currents. In 1999, I was able to make the crow's
nest, and visit small parts of the sunk ship. Why is this
important? My father, Gary Kahrman, was stationed on this very
cutter in 1963-1965. I celebrated his life on Father's Day,
1999, during my dive there. This week marks the 17th year of
his passing. |

Since I live in the land of Space Shuttles
and Moon Walks, today I thought I would give you one of
my favorite Hubble Space Telescope photos. This is a real
photo from space. It is amazing what is out there-very
inspirational. We can learn so much from our space
explorations-
This picture comes to you through the
efforts of thousands of people who created, maintained, and
poured their hearts and souls into discovering "what is
beyond." |

My favorite Lance photo of all
time. Work really hard, and the flowers will bloom around
you....sunflower fields TDF 2004. I wonder if he noticed them
THIS year? He wanted to, but I wonder if he DID. I
think so... |

July 29,
2005:
Looks like a clown car, huh? This
is my dad, Gary, circa 1961. As a Junior in HS, he won this
brand new Vespa (which makes the scooters today.) I treasured
his story about how he won it: He had to come closest to
figuring out how long a DJ would stay up on a block of ice as
a local radio promo.
I lost my dad in 1988, and this car
memory is one of my favorites. It so happens I found out that
this very car is owned by, ironically, a friend of my family
in Massachusetts. Maybe someday I will see this car in
person... |

2005:
What is this? This is
my favorite image which I took at the Flight 93 Memorial
site in Shanksville, PA, in the Summer 2003. There is
chain link fence, a few granite markers, and hundreds of
momentos left on a daily basis. Volunteers told me weekly they
take everything left and store it in a permanent vault. They
hope someday, when a permanent memorial is built, they can use
some of the stored items. This painting was left by a grade
school child, along with a handwritten message. The sky then
opened up, and the tears of rain smudged it in almost a
perfect way. This is true art from the heart if I ever saw
it... |
